Visual Design & Communications

Qantas SOYA
Visual Design & Communications Award

The SOYA Visual Design & Communications category was a tricky one to judge, said mentor Vince Frost: “This year saw an amazing standard of entries and therefore it was incredibly hard for me to judge this category.”

In the end, Vince chose COFA graduate and Sydneysider Wing Lau as this year’s winner. Wing, who describes himself in a string of adjectives on his SOYA profile, had just one to add: “speechless.”

Wing follows in the footsteps of last year’s winner, Luke Brown, who spoke about his experience as a SOYA winner on our blog recently.

A Friend of Mine

Run by Suzy Tuxen, A Friend of Mine is an holistic design practice based in Melbourne. Every project undertaken is approached intelligently, communicated creatively and crafted with passion. Often collaborating with talented ‘friends’, A Friend of Mine works across a mix of industry sectors and design disciplines, adapting creative thinking to varied budgets. From developing brand identities to fitting out shops — and everything in between.

Lucrezia Invernizzi Tettoni

Lucrezia Invernizzi-Tettoni has an impressive design portfolio and a heartfelt approach to her work. She also now adds SOYA runner-up to her list of achievements.

“A good design or brand can create value, and increase the quality of things and life, and as sensual beings, I believe that this is an important part of our emotional development. To be surrounded by interesting things might inspire you to go on to do something inspiring.”

Wing Lau may have taken out the main prize of $5,000 cash, $5,000 in Qantas flights and 12 months’ mentoring with Vince Frost but we are certain there will be opportunities for many entrants in the future.

Congratulations to all – it was an excellent round of submissions.
