Winner bio

The year after he completed the Masters of Film and Television in Narrative Directing at the Victorian College of the Arts School of Film and Television, Dustin’s short film, Snow, was selected for competition at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. Since then Snow has been exhibited at the George Pompidou Centre in Paris and was awarded Best Film at the 2007 Falls Creek Film Festival. Since taking home the SOYA prize in 2007, Dustin has completed another short film, Hawker, which has been selected to premiere at the 2008 Melbourne International Film Festival. He has also been invited to take part in the festival’s prestigious Accelerator program – an industry program for Australia’s best emerging filmmakers. In early 2008 he relocated to Port Campbell for two months, using some of his SOYA prize money to rent a shack and devote his time to writing his feature film script, Stray, as well as scripts for two new short films, one of which, Eskimo Kiss, he has recently completed post-production. He is currently undertaking a Director’s Attachment with Glendyn Ivin on his feature film, Last Ride, starring Hugo Weaving.
