SOYA08 ENTRIES CLOSE – Now what?

Friday, August 08, 2008

Entries have now closed for SOYA08. We hope you registered for your chance to win $10,000 in cash and flights, and a mentorship with a leader in your field!

Our team is hard at work right now sorting through the thousands of works submitted to SOYA, making sure only the best of the best make it to the next round. If you you did register, here's some info on the next steps...

1.    Assessing entries: we assess every entry and every work, so you may be contacted by a SOYA category producer if they require further information, supplementary works or more detailed images of your work. Keep checking that email and please respond if you do hear from them - they have a huge task ahead and every little bit helps!

2.    Shortlisting: the SOYA team and category producers work together to select ten shortlisted creatives in each category. Again, you may be contacted if you are a contender for shortlisting as we prepare detailed presentations for each of our judges...

3.    Judging: SOYA's seven outstanding mentors spend time with your work and read your artists' statements and supporting documents to select the top three finalists in each category. If you make it to shortlisting stage, you know your work has been viewed by some of the world's biggest names.

4.    Announcement: in mid October we'll announce the names of the three finalists in each category - and we'll promote them and their work in the lead up to...

5.    Awards Night: On November 12, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, we'll announce the seven winners of SOYA08 - in the presence of our mentors and some of the biggest names in the media and creative fields.

Good luck, and make sure you keep checking back for updates on the progress of SOYA08...

Qantas may be under intense media scrutiny at the moment, but that hasn't stopped it from reaching out to the kids. The deadline for Qantas Spirit Of Youth Awards (better known as SOYA) has just been extended from July 31 until August 8 at 5pm.

The competition invites fashion designers, musicians, artists, photographers, visual communicators, object designers and filmmakers aged 30 and under to enter their work for the chance to win $5000 in cash, $5000 in Qantas flights and mentorships from industry leaders.

Past winners have included Canberra's Young and the Restless and Adelaide's Wolf and Cub.
